The Perfect English Breakfast: What to Expect

One of the highlights of staying at a British bed and breakfast is the full English breakfast. It's more than just food – it's a cherished tradition that sets the tone for a great day of exploring.

A traditional English breakfast typically includes several key components. Eggs are prepared to your preference: fried, scrambled, or poached. We ask guests to specify their preference when checking in or at breakfast time. Bacon – and yes, British bacon is different from American crispy bacon – is back bacon, which is meatier and less fatty. Sausages, often called "bangers," are a breakfast staple, usually pork and flavourful.

You'll also find baked beans, typically in tomato sauce, which provide protein and fibre. Mushrooms, usually button mushrooms, are either grilled or fried. Tomatoes are often grilled or fried, adding freshness and colour to the plate. Black pudding is a traditional blood sausage that might seem unusual to visitors, but many guests discover it's delicious.

Toast or fried bread completes the savoury elements, perfect for mopping up the flavours. We serve fresh bread from local bakeries when possible, and you're welcome to request brown or white options.

At Whiteways B&B, we take pride in sourcing quality ingredients. Our eggs come from local farms, our sausages are from trusted suppliers, and we use fresh produce delivered several times weekly. Breakfast is cooked to order, meaning your meal arrives hot and prepared exactly as you like it.

We cater to various dietary requirements without fuss. Whether you're vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, or have allergies, our team can prepare alternatives that are equally satisfying. Simply let us know in advance or mention it when you arrive.

Breakfast is served between 7 and 9 AM on weekdays, with extended hours at weekends. It's served in our dining room with views over the gardens – the perfect peaceful setting to fuel up before your day of activities.
